Ability in Action
The Ability in Action program is offered to schools and community groups interested in increasing awareness of adapted sport and recreation opportunities. Participants will enjoy interactive experiences to learn, play and participate together. On-site and off-site activity options are available and will highlight the importance of accessibility, inclusion and teamwork.
Making a Difference in Sport & Recreation
Variety has been educating individuals, school groups, corporations and community organizations in accessibility and inclusive healthy living options across Ontario for more than 30 years. Last year, 10,000 participants took part in Variety’s outreach programs across the province. As one of the first facilities in North America to promote inclusive sport and recreation, we are proud to invite you to get involved in our exciting initiatives.
ABILITY IN ACTION PROGRAMS
Adapted games, equipment and ideas to promote inclusive opportunities for participants. A variety of inclusive/interactive sessions are offered in the gymnasium with a focus on cooperative play and recreation. These activities could include modified floor hockey, team building activities, and modified bowling.
These exciting sessions could include orientation to the adapted equipment, skills/drills and a game. These sports could include: wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, 5 a side soccer, wheelchair soccer, bocce, indoor curling.
This session takes place at your location and includes interactive adapted sport opportunities such as: wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, bocce, indoor sledge hockey, indoor curling, etc. based on your space and interests. Additional fee: mileage to/from venue $0.41/km.

- We empower individuals of all ages and abilities by providing accessible, safe, inclusive, and adapted fitness and sports through facilitation, skills transfer, and training.
- Our Outreach and Education programs were created in 1987 to introduce adapted activity ideas to engage individuals with disabilities and their peers in inclusive opportunities. Each program offers practical learning in play, cooperation, individual and team experiences.
- The Inclusive Physical Activity Classes can also provide an introduction to multi-sport or sport-specific activities based on a group’s interests.
