Fitness Friends began in 1999 as an ideal way for students of all abilities to get active – together! Fitness Friends takes place outside of class – before or after school, during recess/ breaks or at lunch.
Educators match two students as Fitness Friends encouraging students who may not know each other to enjoy physical activities chosen by them. Activities can include games, sports or recreation – activities should be active, fun and inclusive.
Each minute of activity counts as one point for your Fitness Friends team. Please ensure you record your points for your team/school. Fitness Friends should submit their recording sheet/points to their educator weekly.
Each participating school can enter as many teams as they wish, with each team consisting of two students and an educator (please note educators can assist on multiple Fitness Friends teams). At the conclusion of the year, all participants are invited to celebrate their successes at an end of year party.
Since 1999, Fitness Friends has invited up to 1,000 children annually to participate as a team of two students in inclusive and integrated activities promoting self-confidence, peer networks and a healthy and active life style.
Celebrate the success of this year’s activities together with hundreds of other Fitness Friends participants. Inclusive activities and celebrities will be in supply!
