VOLT Hockey Team

The Variety Village VOLT Hockey Team provides athletes with the opportunity to experience the excitement of hockey in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. Using specially designed electric hockey sport chairs, athletes with a variety of disabilities, particularly those with limited upper-body mobility, develop their skills, build confidence, and experience the camaraderie of being part of a team.

VOLT Hockey Athlete Pathway

Our VOLT Hockey pathway follows the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, helping athletes progress from learning the fundamentals to developing advanced skills and competitive performance. With age- and developmentally-appropriate programming, athletes can transition through each level with the support of experienced coaches, building confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of sport.

Pre-Competitive

Pre-Competitive VOLT Hockey is catered to beginners and younger participants. Participants learn how to operate the volt cart safely and learn basic skills through games and one on one coaching with staff. The opportunities for pre-competitive players include participating in fun 2v2 tournaments so they can learn the sport safe environment.

Age Group: 5-12 years old
Season: 9–11 week sessions offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring
Training: 1 hour practice once per week
Pre-Requisite Requirements: Participants are able to listen and understand safety instructions, love participating in a team environment with other players

Competitive

The competitive program is geared towards older participants. Competitive players can expect a structured session of both drills and scrimmages in order to fully develop their volt hockey skills. Players in this program can also expect to work in teams in order to learn how to play effectively in games. The competitive program balances a fun approach with the goal of improving.

Age Group: 13+ years old
Season: 10-months, September to June
Training: 2 hour practices once per week
Tournaments: Provincial VOLT Hockey League and the North American Championships
Pre-Requisite Requirements: Participation in the pre-competitive program

Team Highlights & Achievements

Variety Village hosted its fifth annual Volt Hockey Invitational on January 3, 2026. We welcomed seven teams from across Ontario to compete in Division II and Grassroots categories with the support of GTHL referees and dedicated volunteers.
Participated in the Volt Hockey World Cup in Gavle, Sweden
